My name is Michelle Lugerner and I am delighted to be your 7th grade Life Science Teacher. This is my second year teaching science at Macopin. I hold my Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Biology and a minor in Psychology. I am certified to teach at the elementary and middle school level. I graduated from Ramapo College of New Jersey in Mahwah. Prior to this, I spent two years attending Sussex County Community College where I received my Associate Degree in Liberal Arts.
I am very dedicated and determined in everything that I do. I consider myself as an enthusiastic, out-going, and down-to-earth person ready to share this personality with my students and athletes. While at Macopin last year I participated in several events throughout the school year. I chaperoned most of the school dances and activity nights, volunteered at the Rock-a-Thon, enjoyed the day with the 7th graders on the Broadway trip, road the roller coasters with the Macopin Band at Dorney Park, camped with the 7th grade students at Fairview, attended the 8th grade Promotion Dance, and played in the teacher-student volleyball games at the All School Fair.
This year I plan on continuing my involvement with the students outside the classroom, in the effort to increase the rapport with the students in the classroom. I will be joining the staff of the West Milford Field Hockey Team this fall as a volunteer goalie coach. I am excited and eager to pass down my knowledge of field hockey to a group of girls who will in turn have a successful season. I will be running a girl's lacrosse clinic at Macopin on Thursdays during the fall. (Mr. Conway will be running a boy's lacrosse clinic on Tuesdays in the fall also.) Outside of West Milford, I am a JV girl's lacrosse coach at Pope John High School.

I spend the majority of my free time outdoors throughout the different seasons. During the winter I enjoy snow boarding various mountains such as Mt. Creek in New Jersey, Stowe, Killington, Jay Peak, and Smuggler's Notch in Vermont. I look forward to heading mountain on the nights that the Macopin Ski and Snowboarding Club is in attendance so I can hit the slopes with my students.
Once the warmer weather hits, I enjoy hiking, camping, kayaking, biking, and snorkeling (while on vacation; of course.) I spend time traveling with friends and family during the summer and winter break. I have traveled to Hawaii, St. Thomas, Florida, Vermont, Maine, North and South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Mexico, and last, but certainly not least the Jersey Shore. I find it important to relate my travels to the content taught in the classroom. Students enjoy making a 'real life' connection to the topics they are learning.
I love going for long walks with my Golden Retriever; Neiko Cornelious. Neiko enjoys swimming in any type of water he can find, especially lakes at the state park near my house. This means that I have to join him in the water in order to keep him on a leash. I typically play lacrosse, field hockey, baseball, and Frisbee and Neiko is always attempting to "retrieve" the ball. (P.S. He has lots and lots of energy!!!)
